The argument presented by the ban is that doing business with Huawei is a national security risk. But according to Reuters, chipmakers argue that Huawei’s smartphones and computers that use commonly available parts will not be a security concern. At least, this is when compared to the company’s 5G networking gear.

Reuters’ sources say that the move is about protecting American companies, and not Huawei. The report also states that Huawei spends US$11 billion (~RM45.95 billion) buying components from US brands like Intel, Qualcomm and Micron last year. Huawei itself has also been looking to reverse the ban. Last month, the company filed a court motion to challenge it. A little more recently, China’s government has also publicly considered its own blacklist for companies that refuse to work with Chinese brands. (Source: Reuters)
