That said, it’s a little bit of a bummer that Avengers: Endgame did not receive a Best Picture nomination. It is, after all, the most pop-culturally relevant film of the decade and a great one at that. But it’s frankly unsurprising. The Academy is known to not show much love to “genre” films. It’s also a huge bummer that once again, the Academy Awards is rather white, especially when we look at the women’s acting categories. Now, I’m not saying we should nominate people of colour for the sake of it, but surely Lupita Nyong’o deserves a nomination for her stellar performance in Jordan Peele’s Us. What about Awkwafina, who won Best Actress – Musical/Comedy at the Golden Globes for her work in The Farewell?
