Huang’s statement about the status of his company’s last-generation GeForce graphics cards was given during a Q&A session with VentureBeat. During the interview, VentureBeat queried about the excess inventory of the GeForce GTX 10 Series that was brought forth by the boom in the cryptocurrency mining last year. Huang noted that all of NVIDIA’s high-end GeForce GTX 10 series cards were already sold out. Including the GTX 1080 Ti, GTX 1080, GTX 1070 Ti, and GTX 1070. At this point, he noted that it’ll only be “several more weeks” before the all the remaining GTX 1060 graphics cards will be cleared from NVIDIA’s stockpile. Thus bringing a close to the Pascal generation of cards.
Once these cards finally sold out, NVIDIA will then be free to properly focus on its current Turing-based graphics cards, as well as all future GPU iterations under the GeForce branding. At this stage, it wouldn’t surprise us if NVIDIA were to divert their attention towards creating another mid-range, if not entry-level GeForce RTX graphics card that’s a step below the recently released RTX 2060 for the masses.
