Previously in April, the AirAsia permitted only one piece of baggage not more than 5kg, but was later revised to 7kg after receiving public backlash for the decision. It explained that this was to minimise unwanted contact between a passenger and another’s baggage and vice versa, while also maintaining social distancing especially during embarkation and disembarkation.

With the current update, passengers will be able to carry one cabin bag not exceeding the dimensions of 56cm (H) x 36cm (W) x 23cm (D) and must fit in the overhead storage compartment in the aircraft. Their secondary is limited to either a laptop bag or a small bag that does not exceed the dimensions of 40cm (H) x 30cm (W) x 10cm (D) and must be able to fit under the seat in front. AirAsia said that the change in policy is effective immediately, starting today on 7 July 2020. As per usual, passengers who wish to travel with more than the permitted cabin baggage limit are advised to pre-book their checked baggage allowance prior to the flight.
