The new Predator Connect 5G product lineup consisted of two different products with one of them being the Predator Connect X5 5G CPE. For those who not familiar with CPE, it stands for customer premises equipment and in the case of the X5 CPE, it is technically a 5G-based gateway for one’s home.
Equipped with a 2GHz quad-core processor that Acer has sourced from MediaTek alongside 1GB of RAM and 1GB internal storage, the company also said that the X5 is the first 5G CPE in the world to come with the Intel Killer Prioritization Engine. This feature enables the CPE to prioritize network performance according to specific games, apps, and websites. In fact, the X5 also features a dedicated GAME LAN port that would always put games as priority traffic. With the ability to support 5G download speed of up to 4.7Gbps, the CPE is also a Wi-Fi 6 router with a 4×4 dual-band MU-MIMO antenna setup and is able to support up to 256 devices at the same time.
Meanwhile, Acer has also unveiled the Predator Connect D5 5G dongle which allows gamers to take advantage of the high-speed and low-latency 5G network even when they are outside of their home. Just like the X5 CPE, the USB 3.1 Type-C dongle is also using the Intel Killer network solution which allows it to shape the network experience to be more favourable for gaming. Similarly, it also able to support a download speed of up to 4.7Gbps as well as 2.3Gbps upload speed. Acer has also equipped the D5 dongle with an active cooling system that is inclusive of a 10,000rpm fan which further highlights the dongle’s high-performance nature.
However, the actual release date and pricing for these Predator Connect 5G equipment was not revealed by Acer during the GPC. While we will keep you posted once we hear more about them from the company, we don’t expect these devices to arrive here anytime soon given the fact that Malaysia’s 5G network is nowhere near ready for end-users at the moment.
